... Yeah. Retirement wouldn't suit me, though. After being stuck in this place so long, I want to go somewhere I can put my talents to use. Or maybe learn some new talents.

I'm not the one that needs to be convinced. You care for him, and he's certainly been through some extraordinary circumstances. So I'm sure there's plenty that I could respect in him.

Since you're asking, yes. He thinks a lot of his own advice when he's just as susceptible to emotional decision making as everyone else. It's not like that's always a bad thing, but too many people here confuse pessimism with rationalism.
