I'm not the one that needs to be convinced. You care for him, and he's certainly been through some extraordinary circumstances. So I'm sure there's plenty that I could respect in him.

Since you're asking, yes. He thinks a lot of his own advice when he's just as susceptible to emotional decision making as everyone else. It's not like that's always a bad thing, but too many people here confuse pessimism with rationalism.
