It doesn't feed off it. Creation magic is an extension of one's will. When one gets distracted some inconsequential side effects can occur. For example, if I was trying to make a bouquet of roses and was contemplating the night sky, I might end up with with flowers made of stardust instead.
Fear preys on our ability to keep focus so when it does take root, it does to disastrous effects.
We were running out of options, but not frightened enough to distraction when summoning Zodiark. It was a careful calculation done with the upmost precaution we could muster with the time available. We wouldn't sacrifice half of our people on a plan we would not think would work. Not that we were all going to live anyway, had we not summoned him.
The fear merely accelerated the Final Days creating beasts and monsters and other devastations to contend with. Though even without fear, it would have come to the same conclusion.
That was the star dying. The fear that feed your mind. That is what Zodiark was created to protect against.
[He pauses, thinking for quite a bit before speaking.]
It was after. After His Lord and Grace thus did save everyone. His creation only stopped the star from dying, but to bring about more life? To revive that what was lost was to require more and more aether.
It was a question of how the star should continue on that divided us. There were those that thought Lord Zodiark was not the answer. But what they created was far worse in the end.
I know you do not mean it in malice which is why we can have a conversation at all, but that doesn't mean I won't snip as it is a sore subject. And perhaps these questions are worthy of answers, but in the end I can't find myself to care.
Cardinal Chases Dawn, you are my friend. One that I am dearly attached to. You do not owe me anything but your presence and hopefully a smile for caring for you.

Zodiark specifically was created to break the laws of reality, a will given to the star itself.

So the fact that you were all frightened when you summoned Zodiark had a negative effect. Can that be fixed?

Though I am curious. What do you mean by 'fixed'?

Why were people opposed to him, if he was the only option? Because of the tempering?

Hydaelyn, right? But I don't understand, isn't that the exact same problem? Hydaelyn would need aether, too.

Don't ask me. I did not endorse this foolish plan nor do I understand the reasoning behind it.

I'm sorry, I shouldn't be theorizing over such a sensitive topic.

[They sit up a bit.]
But it's still poor recompense for helping me relax. Would you like me to see about your back?

Better. Being doted on suits you in small quantities. Ever did you too much energy to stay still.

Stay the night here. The bed is large enough for four and I'm not even certain Cosmo will be here or with Vergil tonight.

[They huff lightly and burrow their face against Emet-Selch's chest, well away from them scar. Don't tease them!]
Don't complain when I get up early.
