The arcane. I was reading up on some Eorzean history and I read about a device called a mammet heart.

It's not for the reason you think. I think you can use a mammet heart to make a prosthetic sense for a person. Cosmo said her thought it could work.

A summoned creature? Is that what that bird was?

A bit of both. You could build it out of pure arcane components, but you are much better with a mix.

Interesting. And what sense did you have in mind?

The bird in Levity's memory was a soul that got captured in a creation. I'm not even sure what Lahabrea's original intent was.

Any. I'm not sure yet. Your own vision would be an example of one, or a more powerful version of the Galrean third eye.

Huh... I'll ask himself some time. So what is a summoned creature?

You could definitely enhance your ability to see aether with it.

Mostly an essence of a primal. It does not retain its ability to Temper, but it can mimic their abilities in certain ways. Though there are summons that are more harmless such as carbuncles.

Where do you summon it from?

You would need a focus and a memory of said primal. Not that is this is my expert area of the arcane.

A memory? So it's like... a ghost copy?

More you need to understand the primal in which you are trying to mimic. I suppose you could make it up as you go, but it would be more difficult. Perhaps even a second hand account would work.

Yes. That is a better way of putting it. Cosmo might know more on the subject of summoning if you are interested. No one is better at summoning primals than he.

I am curious about the similarities with Achilles. Not a skill I'll pick up myself, however. I'm hardly going to hand over my will to a god.

Ah. Now the interest becomes more apparent. I was curious. Achilles was truly him, was he not? A primal is merely a reflection. The image or memories that one recalls of said creature be it god like beast or loved one.

I'm really not sure. It depends on what you mean by 'truly. himself' when we're talking about someone who was fictional. Mycroft said in their book that things Bridger brings to life are influenced by the kid's will, but I haven't seen enough of Achilles to say.

Do let me know when you find out. I am curious if he was actually created or was he simply a shell, a reflection much like the Primals are.

If a Primal is a reflection, how is it that you came to summon Zodiark specifically? He doesn't see like a being Ascians would normally gravitate to.

Zodiark and Hydaelyn are different being made of the first people. The energy that went into their creation no longer exists.

Zodiark specifically was created to break the laws of reality, a will given to the star itself.

But why is it fear that he feeds off of?

It doesn't feed off it. Creation magic is an extension of one's will. When one gets distracted some inconsequential side effects can occur. For example, if I was trying to make a bouquet of roses and was contemplating the night sky, I might end up with with flowers made of stardust instead.

Fear preys on our ability to keep focus so when it does take root, it does to disastrous effects.

So the fact that you were all frightened when you summoned Zodiark had a negative effect. Can that be fixed?

We were running out of options, but not frightened enough to distraction when summoning Zodiark. It was a careful calculation done with the upmost precaution we could muster with the time available. We wouldn't sacrifice half of our people on a plan we would not think would work. Not that we were all going to live anyway, had we not summoned him.

The fear merely accelerated the Final Days creating beasts and monsters and other devastations to contend with. Though even without fear, it would have come to the same conclusion.

Though I am curious. What do you mean by 'fixed'?

I remember when we were transported to the Amuarot in your mind and Cosmo's. I thought the fear was an affect of Zodiark - something he fed off of.

Why were people opposed to him, if he was the only option? Because of the tempering?

That was the star dying. The fear that feed your mind. That is what Zodiark was created to protect against.

[He pauses, thinking for quite a bit before speaking.]

It was after. After His Lord and Grace thus did save everyone. His creation only stopped the star from dying, but to bring about more life? To revive that what was lost was to require more and more aether.

It was a question of how the star should continue on that divided us. There were those that thought Lord Zodiark was not the answer. But what they created was far worse in the end.
