Now, to whom are you referring? Two of the three you mentioned are auditions like myself. I noticed you didn't include Wildfire or Kohime in the list.

I'm referring to the self-proclaimed spymaster of the auditions. I know about Absinthe, and he knows I know, so there's no need to cover for him, unless you have an arrangement.

I'm not trying to snoop into secret plans or assignments, I just want to have a better understanding of the organization, and your thoughts on it and your colleagues, mostly for my personal reference— none of which will be public, of course— our unit stands the most to lose if the audition idols' identities were revealed, and I don't intend on making that any harder for us.

[So, the most hilarious thing about this is this is one of the few auditions who hasn't been filled in with any details. That is what happens when Azzy goes off and does his Azzy things.]

Do you know the depths of what you are asking? If you know that much, you must know that we auditions are only here because we have a deep desire to be fulfilled. Casually you mentioned that Absinthe is among those with their memories to me. Would he appreciate you saying such things? Is that a breech of trust between the two of you? You didn't even know if I knew of such a detail or not.

Don't get me wrong, I would like to be close allies, but I must ensure our goals align before I take such a step. Your position among the intelligence gathers makes you a powerful player in this game ---- yes, I did read the entire novel that was gifted to us. Informative it was, it could use with a few abbreviations.

From recent events, I can see that there is definitely anger and resentment among the status quo. However, to achieve my goals, I need the status quo to exist. So I would like to know your intentions more than your personal reference.

I will report back to B and Intensity— that shouldn't be a surprise. But the purpose of I2, first and foremost, is the life, health and safety of its inhabitants. If people want to run off on their own, like Hurricane and Nem, we want them to be aware of the risks posed— ah, although none of us knew they were going to do that, but that's the flaw of an opt-in system. So long as the audition idols aren't an overt threat, we're going to keep the specifics about audition idols to ourselves. The last thing anyone wants or needs is a witch hunt, certainly not half our unit. I'm not here to pass judgement or make assumptions. I just want to know what you think.

Maybe. I don't have any strong feelings either way.

I can't speak for everyone else's motives, just that everyone is tired of people disappearing without telling a soul, resulting in slapdash rescue attempts that are just as harmful. The welfare of the general populace and ideally, discouragement of going on expeditions without adequate planning are the primary goals. Distribution of information relevant to their lives, health and safety is the secondary one.

Such an uproar we did see. Such passionate people. Such resentment for the Production. I've met enough heroes and heard the tales. Do the community as a whole not wish to see the Production topple? Does your I2 agency?

This is where our mutual cooperation may come to difficulties. I need the Production in place, whole and able to provide graduation. If you can assure me that, you have my cooperation.

I don't doubt there are some who do feel that way, but those who are privy to this information aren't... [ what's the word? She pauses to hunt for it. ]

Idealistic enough to think that attacking the Producers is a fast track to a happy ending. I'm sure at least a few are seeking the same boon as you. We aren't a resistance group. I'm sure those exist, and they have access to the same notes everyone else has, but not what we discuss.

Then I request time. Time to talk to Intensity and B, and if you recommend any others? I wish to make my motives clear. To see if we can walk the same path.

This is just a preliminary discussion to see if you'd be amenable to sharing your thoughts at all, and if you don't think you can, it's more important to me that you remain comfortable. I would also like to stress that regardless of whether you contribute or not, your identity will remain confidential.

That being said, the only ones I'd speak to would be Intensity and B. Even if the other members of i2 have been vetted, I don't know them well enough to ensure their reaction will be the same as mine.

And I do not mean to take my frustration out upon you. I would much prefer to work together than not. Between the two of us, I doubt it would have taken much to reconcile. I will vet your peers as I have little time or patience for would be heroes.

Though if I might ask a personal question in return. I do know you are dedicated heavily to your work, but if all you wish is to return home, what do you get out of ensuring the safety of the masses? BARiTONES benefits, of course, but do you truly feel so strongly about their security?

It probably doesn't need to be hidden, but given the negative sentiments about the Producers— that one in particular... discretion is best.

As for why I do it... I don't really want or expect anything in return. I saw the need, and felt what little experience I have in that capacity could be useful, so I provided it. It's not as though I have any strong feelings about the Producers, or the system, or that my struggles entitle me to anything, be it more lenient treatment or some reward.

Put concisely, you have taken this mantle because it was a job needing to be done.

Basically. It's no different from why I got into unit PR. No one else had an interest. Tenshouin-san even had outright disdain for selling a product as a Live.

And you do the job well. I doubt any would argue with that.

Though I would recommend finding a passion other than being a cog in an elaborate machine. ...Or perhaps you already have, and I am uncharitably belittling it.
